Hey, I like to keep busy.

There are a lot of ways to catch BRJ live in addition to the well-known Sextet. You’ll be hearing a lot about the Quicksand Combo. Then, Jake and his acoustic guitar make for a super solo sound. Bring in the lovely and extremely talented Alison Young, and you’ve got the fabulous duet, “BR2”.
Add the renowned Cleave Anderson (of Blue Rodeo and Screwed fame, among others) on drums, and the charming Wes Neal on double bass, and the quartet, “BR4” brings the room alive.

My old friend Steve Good and I have started two really great bands together:

The first is www.myspace.com/bluemercurycoupe, a band that brings together the very best of the very worst of American popular music: 40’s jump, 50’s rockabilly, 60’s surf and garage, and 70’s New York style Punk. Blue Mercury Coupe is the most fun you’ll have looking over the edge of your glass.

All the lyrics are about cars and chicks, and all the songs are loud and greasy. You can’t miss.

The second is an acoustic rockabilly combo fondly known as the Tennessee Voodoo Coupe.

It’s similar to Blue Mercury Coupe, except it’s all acoustic, with a few more classic covers from the 50’s, some other covers that will surprise and amuse, and a slightly different lineup.

The Big Rude Jake Swing Sextet

I originally put this band together to play bars. It’s basically the old Big Rude Jake band, except we add a whole selection of classic jump blues, swing and jazz tunes to the already big repertoire of original Big Rude Jake material. This band is really a lot of fun. We get together to kick up some dust and get the people dancing. We’re hired to do weddings, corporate events, parties, and that sort of thing.
